The story of George, who being frustrated by memories of fighting in the great war and living with his extended family, wants to bring more beauty into the world. When he comes across a camel and monkey that are about to be abandoned, he embarks on a plan to set up a zoo.
In April 2014, Paris Zoo opens its doors to the public after two years of huge restoration works. Two years to invent a new kind of zoo. With the complicity of a veterinary and an animal or a group of animals, each episode of the series will tell the story of the arrival of an animal at the zoo or a particular event that marked its reopening, including all the stages and issues that characterize them. Each episode will focus on a central story with an emblematic animal but the other species will also be present in our series through sub-plots.

The program also follows the zoo's vet and head keeper as they travel to China to see how giant pandas are cared for in their homeland, and head keeper Alison visits a remote panda reserve in Wolong to witness the efforts to reintroduce the creatures back into the wild.

The animals play the main role in this series. The animals are the real main characters and the supporting roles are for the caretakers or zoo staff. Decisive for the program is the camera technology, which shows the animals' lives everywhere behind the scenes and out of sight of the audience. We experience the 24-hour feeling within the walls of the zoo, just like the animals themselves. The program is recorded at Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen, the Netherlands.
