A shogi player becomes obsessed with winning and leaves his family. Many years later, his daughter Asuka sees his success and takes drastic action.
Asuka despairs when she is falsely accused of robbery at her workplace and arrested. Her half-brother arrives and offers to help on one condition.
Intent on becoming the first female regular professional shogi player, Asuka enters an amateur tournament but loses. She begins training under Todou.
Asuka worries that misfortune will continue to befall those around her if she continues with shogi. Todou recalls his tragic past with the game.
Asuka joins another female shogi player named Yuna for a meal and hears about the pressure she is facing to give up playing shogi after marriage.
Todou visits the shogi association to get Asuka's ban repealed, but Kaori denies him. Later, he and Asuka visit a former shogi association president.
Amid the tabloid scandal, Shoichi tells the shogi association that Asuka is his daughter. Meanwhile, Asuka attempts the kishi admission test.
Asuka receives a manuscript of the content that was removed from Shoichi’s autobiography and learns the true reason why he walked out on his family.
