An automotive engineer who has been framed for murder is rescued from police custody by her husband; they flee to New Orleans, beginning a cross-country odyssey to avoid the law and the real killers.
Jim is captured by local police after a high-speed car chase; Kate turns to an enterprising 12-year-old boy for help in eluding the authorities. The officer relates Jim to the runaway Kate and decides to arrest her too, but she manages to escape.
Jim and Kate pose as ranchers to help a racehorse jockey who's been urged to fix an upcoming race; meanwhile, Shaw zeroes in on the fugitive couple. A horse farm is where Jim and Kate are staying, where they find some respite from their assailants. However, a news crew threatens this tranquility by forcing them to appear on a coast-to-coast telecast that Dawson and Estelle watch. The pair learns that a female jockey at the ranch is addicted to amphetamines in the meantime.
Kate and Jim seek refuge with an old Army buddy of Jim's who suffers flashbacks in which he sees Kate as the traitorous woman he once loved. At an Army installation, Jim and Kate turn to an army friend for help, not realizing that the man is still traumatized by traumatic wartime memories that drive him crazy. Because of his mistrust, another base officer starts looking into Jim and Kate.
Jim's sister is convalescing in a hospital after suffering a stroke. The will to see her puts Jim’s life in jeopardy. Kate is told that she's pregnant and decides to run away.

Chase is an American police procedural drama television series created by Jennifer Johnson for the NBC network. The series originally aired on Mondays at 10:00 pm ET/9:00 pm CT and premiered on September 20, 2010. After the mid-season break, Chase returned on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm ET/8:00 pm CT On October 19, 2010, the network ordered a full season consisting of 22 episodes, but this order was cut to 18 in December. On February 3, 2011, the show was put on "a hiatus" with no plan regarding the remaining episodes. On April 6, 2011, NBC announced the remaining five episodes would be broadcast on Saturday nights beginning on April 23, 2011. Later the show was replaced by Harry's Law.
