Triumph in the Skies is about the daily lives of the staff, working under Solar Airways (a fictional airline based on Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific). It has been compared to the now-cancelled NBC series LAX. It sparked an interest in aviation when first aired amongst Hong Kong viewers, as well as an interest in a small doll named "Triangel" featured early on in the series.

It tells of the story of the lives of four close friends that go through many hardships together to achieve their dreams, rise to stardom and become singers at a famous nightclub. This series follows their friendship, love, fate, hardships, and losses.

TONG TONG loses part of her hearing in an accident but she has a positive attitude towards life and she knows how to take good care of others. With the support of her mentor KO MING, TONG becomes a voice over talent by utilizing her lip reading ability and she meets another voice talent LEUNG KAI YIN who also has keen interest in the industry. YIN is fond of the leading voice actress YUEN SIU NA and he asks TONG to be his matchmaker. TONG suffers from a lack of confidence to exhibit her love to YIN so she prefers to help achieve his wish.

Sing Gwok-dung is upset when he is transferred from the Anti-Serious Crime and Triad Organization to the frivolous Anit-Swindler Unit. He is reluctant to cooperate with his new superior Gong Yut-guk, but changes his attitude when his idol, Inspector Lam Zi-ho, commits suicide. Conned by swindlers, Zi-ho is in heavy debt. Pak-Kiu refuses to have a criminal as his friend, but Lap-Man becomes a undercover cop in Sai-Hao's gang. Along with Sai-Hao, they overrule Yik-Tin and take over the mafia, and the two develop a misconceived mentor-student relationship. Unfortunately, Lap-Man gets fired from the police force before he can finish his mission in the mafia. He becomes Sai-Hao's people and turns his back against the police force.
