Love and Bruises

Jon, a first-time filmmaker, finds himself in Lansing, Michigan to present his film at a local film festival. Vince, his high school friend who is now a volunteer fireman and small-time drug dealer, also visits the town to support Jon on his big day, or so it seems. After a raucous hello and much backslapping, it appears that there is an undercurrent of tension in the air.

The film takes on Ali, a member of a wealthy family, and his shared infatuation with a night club worker by the name of Tülay. Ali and Tülay want to get married. Though Ali’s father disapproves of the union at first, he eventually gives in. But the owner of the night club that Tülay works at, Ejdar Hasan, also has his eye on her. Hasan proposes a large sum of money to Tülay as a measure to convince her not to get married to Ali. When Ali’s father ups the offer, Hasan resorts to other plans. The day of the marriage, Hasan and his men cut off the wedding motorcade. In the conflict that arises, Ali’s father is killed. In retaliation, Ali kills a few of Hasan’s men, and lands himself in prison. During the transfer from the courthouse to prison, Ali escapes in order to exact his revenge

A typical experimental film, in which a variety of audiovisual techniques are used to create the sense of polymorphic eroticism as developed by European and Mediterranean cinematography of the 20th century. Combining the methods of “animation” and “live action”, this intricate work embodies the idea of an “ars combinatoria”. The structure is loose, with neither a central axis nor a point where everything converges, contributing greatly to the open-ended character of the film, where rhythm is the key element.

A woman works as electrical engineer in a construction site where mostly Kurdish workers are employed. After the death of her brother in a clash during his military service, she starts to behave the workers including the illegally employed worker man who is secretly in love with her, like enemies.

When she meets sensitive funeral director Wu, their passion for one another escalates into an affair. But the path to true love is fraught with jealousy, forcing someone to make a deadly move.

A New York City writing professor, Frannie Avery, has an affair with a police detective who is investigating the murder of a beautiful young woman in her neighborhood.

Eva, an upper-class housewife, frustratedly leaves her arrogant husband and decides to enter the call girl business. She lets Yvonne, a prostitute, teach her the basics and both set out for prey together, until Eva starts an affair with Chris, who turns out to be a call boy, as well. Larry Flynt is the hedonistically obnoxious, but indomitable, publisher of Hustler magazine. The film recounts his struggle to make an honest living publishing his girlie magazine and how it changes into a battle to protect the freedom of speech for all people.
