Two escaped convicts roll into the village of Happy, Texas, where they're mistaken for a gay couple who work as beauty pageant consultants. They go along with it to duck the police, but the local sheriff has a secret of his own.

High school seniors and best friends, Sonny and Duane, live in a dying Texas town. The handsome Duane is dating a local beauty, while Sonny is having an affair with the coach's wife. As graduation nears and both boys contemplate their futures, Duane eyes the army and Sonny takes over a local business. Each struggles to figure out if he can escape this dead-end town and build a better life somewhere else.

Dr. Sami's conditions change, and he even becomes preoccupied with Munira. Munira tries to find out the reason for this change, but fails to bring him back home, so she begins to spread rumors and scandals about him.

On one of his trips, Wahid, a forty-year-old journalist, meets Sawsan, a young flight attendant. Admiration grows between them, and love grows, but the age difference between them is an obstacle, as she fears repeating the experience of her mother, who married her father, who was twenty years older than her, and then he died. Sawsan falls ill and is admitted to a hospital, and Wahid goes to visit her. The mother is surprised that he is her lover, whom she loved when she was young, and was unable to marry him.

The first part tells the story of Moses leading the Jews from Egypt to the Promised Land, his receipt of the tablets and the worship of the golden calf. The second part shows the efficacy of the commandments in modern life through a story set in San Francisco. Two brothers, rivals for the love of Mary, also come into conflict when John discovers Dan used shoddy materials to construct a cathedral.
