Peter Whitehead’s disjointed Swinging London documentary, subtitled “A Pop Concerto,” comprises a number of different “movements,” each depicting a different theme underscored by music: A early version of Pink Floyd’s “Interstellar Overdrive” plays behind some arty nightclub scenes, while Chris Farlowe’s rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Out of Time” accompanies a young woman’s description of London nightlife and the vacuousness of her own existence. In another segment, the Marquess of Kensington (Robert Wace) croons the nostalgic “Changing of the Guard” to shots of Buckingham Palace’s changing of the guard, and recording act Vashti are seen at work in the studio. Sandwiched between are clips of Mick Jagger (discussing revolution), Andrew Loog Oldham (discussing his future) – and Julie Christie, Michael Caine, Lee Marvin, and novelist Edna O’Brien (each discussing sex). The best part is footage of the riot that interrupted the Stones’ 1966 Royal Albert Hall concert.

Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer first joined forces in 1970 and went on to become a global success story. After a break in the eighties, they reunited in the early nineties and took to the road once more. In 1997 they made their debut at the Montreux Jazz Festival with a performance that included all their trademark virtuosity and showmanship. The show includes classic tracks from across their career including Karnevil 9, Hoedown, Take A Pebble, Lucky Man, Tiger in the Spotlight, Tarkus and Fanfare for the Common Man. SUNSET PERFORMANCE - Staged atop the capital’s aged citadel, this set reflects the second halve of the new record. The sunset performance opened with “Guns”, then moved into the single “Orphans” accompanied by a jumping choir. The set wrapped with the album’s title track, sizzling out against a brightly glowing horizon.

To mark ten years since the release of their record-breaking debut album, Sam’s back catalogue is given the full orchestral treatment, perfectly matching their stirring voice.

Devo have been through a lot over the years, developing their parody of humankind's plight of conformity in their theory of devolution after member Gerald Casale witnessed the Kent State killings of student protesters in 1970, but they haven't wavered in their innovative sounds and pioneering visuals.
